Darby Todd and I began collaborating in 2012 to craft a collection of songs. Two of them eventually made their way onto his debut solo album - The Reality of Ones and Zeroes. I've included excerpts here from two pieces that I wrote for him - 'Beginning of the End' and the album closer 'Apathy in the Face of Uncertain Death' .

DARBY TODD: APATHY IN THE FACE OF UNCERTAIN DEATH

Darby managed to assemble an incredible ensemble to bring this track to life. Per Nillson (Meshuggah), Carl Verheyen (Supertramp),  Pete Rinaldi (Hot Leg) and Jo Webb (ELO) and I shared out guitar duties, Neil Angiley played an incredible piano solo, Jem Godfrey (Frost) brought the synth and piano parts to life in ways that I couldn't even imagine and Adam Wakeman added a hammond  that elevated everything again.

The Arco String quartet also feature in a number of sections, bringing warmth and authenticity to the string melodies and Martin Shaw's trumpet playing provides another unexpected twist in the story.

Our original intent with this piece was to create something utterly audacious that could blend elements of electronica, metal, jazz, and orchestral music.

The entire track is available here as a YouTube link, and I've also edited a few clips to showcase specific moments where I had written and programmed large-scale orchestral passages.

DARBY TODD:

BEGINNING OF THE END

This song features the amazing musicianship of Ron 'Bumblefoot' Thal (Sons Of Apollo, Guns N Roses), and Charlie Griffiths (Haken) on guitars, Jem Godfrey (Frost) on keys and synth programming, yours truly on bass, as well as a drum duel with guest drummer Marco Minnemann (The Aristocrats) and some extra drums parts from the legend that is Andy Newmark (John Lennon, Carly Simon).

The entire track is available here as a YouTube link for your enjoyment.
