Basic Scales 2
The Blues Scale
The Blues scale is just like the minor Pentatonic, but with one extra note added in – the b5. This is commonly referred to as a ‘Blue’ note. It is a dissonant note that clashes with our root and so it is commonly used as a linking note to connect together phrases. This scale is used (obviously) in Blues and also in a lot of rock music. and Led Zeppelin’s ‘Heartbreaker’ to hear great examples of riffs built from the minor pentatonic.
